The Chapel on Eagles Bluff will serve as a place for individuals to express beliefs, learn more about faith in groups with others, search within themselves, or to have a special place to go when they seek reflection. The Chapel will afford existing neighborhood Bible Study Groups a meeting place of tranquility and purpose. It will also be available for other groups who live outside or visit the Community regularly. We envision it being available to Eagle’s Bluff Country Club event planning should members or patrons desire The Chapel for a wedding ceremony. It will not be a venue for receptions and similar activities as those are better hosted at the Club.
We foresee inviting occasional speakers to offer services for a non-denominational audience of interested residents, club members, and regular visitors to Eagle’s Bluff. We expect The Chapel to be available as a venue for a memorial service or funeral if the attendance could be accommodated. We do not foresee, any time soon, regular Sunday services, as it is not the intent for The Chapel to compete with or be an alternative to one’s regular church. We hope our residents, friends, and other visitors will see this as a further enhancement to the values associated with living in Eagle’s Bluff.

We are hopeful The Chapel will provide an opportunity for families to introduce or reinforce faith to their children. Similar to existing Bible Study Groups, we foresee similar opportunities for youth in order to strengthen the involvement and exposure of youth to faith-based activities. This added focus is motivated by a 2018 study by the American Journal of Epidemiology which concluded that “children or teens who reported attending a religious service at least once a week scored higher on psychological well-being measurements and had lower risks of mental illness.” This study was reported in a recent article in the Wall Street Journal. “Weekly attendance was associated with higher rates of volunteering, a sense of mission, forgiveness, and lower probability of drug use and early sexual initiation”. The article acknowledged there has been a 20% decline in attendance at formal religious services over the past twenty years. The report shows that nearly half of adults under 30 do not identify with any religion. “The belief if God - in a protective and guiding figure to rely on when times are tough - is one of the best kinds of support for kids in an increasingly pessimistic world”.
We believe The Chapel can serve as a safe haven where youth can be educated and encouraged to explore faith and to better understand how they might enhance their purpose in life through a spiritual relationship. We hope to use guest speakers and other volunteers to complement other programs that are focused on literally enhancing the destiny of children today. And we hope to provide parents other ways they can encourage children in their spirituality.
